The approximately 2,000 employees of the German Felix Schoeller Group have decided to donate money to the victims of the flood disaster. But they didn't have to collect money: the works council came up with the idea of donating the unused lump sum for departmental celebrations from 2020 to those affected in the crisis areas. In this way, every employee makes a contribution that adds up to a proud € 26,000. The company management was so taken with the idea that they increased the amount by another € 10,000. The sum will be donated to the community of Inden in the district of Düren (Germany). The connection to the Düren region, which has been badly affected by the consequences of the floods, is due to the fact that the founder of the Felix Schoeller Group comes from Düren. It was decided that the donation would be used to rebuild educational facilities, sports facilities or children's day care centres.
Throughout its 125-year history, the family-owned company from Osnabrück and its employees have always been committed to helping those affected by crises. The last major wave of solidarity was initiated in 2002 to deal with the consequences of the floods, which also affected two of the company's own plants and the employees in Penig and Weißenborn.
The Felix Schoeller Group, headquartered in Osnabrück, is a global family business that was founded in 1895 and manufactures speciality papers. With more than 3,700 employees, it produced and marketed around 450,000 tonnes of speciality papers in the 2019 financial year. The turnover of the renowned Osnabrück-based company totalled 926 million euros.
