- The new RubyPaper photo paper wins an award in the “Technology” category.
- The PRINTING United Alliance’s Pinnacle Award recognizes the innovative strength of the first true photo paper for high-speed inkjet printing.
Following its successful market launch at the beginning of the year, Felix Schoeller has now received the 2026 Pinnacle Award for RubyPaper in the “Technology” category. Each year, the PRINTING United Alliance presents the award to pioneering innovations in the printing industry. This year, a total of 154 entries from 54 companies were submitted for the Pinnacle Award. Felix Schoeller is one of just 15 companies that entered the competition with a product for the first time and received an award straight away.
RubyPaper was specifically developed for industrial photo production on high-speed inkjet systems. It combines the feel and appearance of classic photo papers with the efficiency of modern digital printing processes. RubyPaper requires neither lamination nor additional finishing and delivers a high-quality, authentic photo look and feel in lustre and glossy surfaces. The new photo paper was specifically developed to meet the requirements of industrial high-speed inkjet photo production, combining a photographic appearance with high process performance.
“Receiving the Pinnacle Award confirms our ambition to develop materials that open up new possibilities for our customers in terms of quality, efficiency and differentiation,” says Jörg Borker, Senior Vice President & General Manager Digital Media EMEA / APAC at Felix Schoeller. “With RubyPaper, we are closing the gap between industrial inkjet productivity and the emotional quality of real photography.”
Fewer process steps, higher quality
To date, high-speed inkjet applications in the photo sector have often been produced using papers coated for offset printing. These papers then need to be laminated or varnished after printing to create a photographic surface. This increases process complexity, material consumption and potential quality risks.
RubyPaper eliminates this additional step: Even at industrial printing speeds, its special ink-receptive coating ensures fast drying, high optical density, an extended colour gamut, highly detailed reproduction, and strong resistance to scratching and ageing. For photo providers, online printers and industrial print service providers, RubyPaper opens up new production opportunities for high-quality LayFlat photo prints, LayFlat photobooks, school and sports photography, and posters. At the same time, the material simplifies the production process and supports more efficient, streamlined workflows.
RubyPaper has been available since March 2026. Felix Schoeller will provide deeper insights into the award-winning photo paper at PRINTING United, taking place from September 23 to 25, 2026, in Las Vegas, USA.
